About Us: Voces de la Frontera is dedicated to supporting and advocating for the rights of immigrants in Wisconsin. We provide legal assistance, advocacy, and support services to help immigrants navigate the complex immigration system and ensure their rights are protected. Our Court Accompaniment Program is a vital part of our mission, offering transportation, emotional and logistical support to immigrants attending court hearings.

Job Summary: As a Court Accompaniment Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in supporting immigrants during their court hearings. You will provide a reassuring presence, help clients understand the court process, and offer practical assistance. This volunteer position requires empathy, reliability, and a commitment to advocating for immigrants.

Key Responsibilities:

• Transport and accompany clients to and back from immigration court hearings in Chicago.
• Provide support and reassurance to clients before, during, and after their court appearances.
• Help clients navigate the courthouse, including locating courtrooms and other necessary facilities.
• Assist clients in understanding court procedures and terminology.
• Communicate with clients to confirm court dates and appointments.
• Work closely with our legal team to provide updates and feedback from court visits.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to our organization’s policies and procedures.
• Attend training sessions and work meetings as required.

Qualifications:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm and supportive in stressful situations.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to scheduled court dates.
• Sensitivity to cultural and linguistic diversity.
• Proficiency in Spanish and English is required.
• Basic understanding of the immigration court process is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Reliable vehicle, car insurance, and a valid driver’s license.

Time Commitment:

• Volunteers are expected to commit to at least 1 trip per month.
• Availability during regular court hours (typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM).

 Job Description: Citizenship Classes Teacher

Position Overview:

Voces de la Frontera seeks a dedicated and experienced Citizenship Classes Teacher to join our team. The Citizenship Classes Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing high-quality citizenship education courses aimed at preparing immigrant individuals to successfully apply for U.S. citizenship. This position plays a crucial role in empowering our community members with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the citizenship process and fully participate in American civic life.

Responsibilities:

– Deliver comprehensive citizenship curriculum that aligns with USCIS requirements and prepares students for the naturalization process.

– Plan and facilitate engaging lessons that cover civics, U.S. history, government structure, and English language proficiency.

– Provide individualized support and guidance to students, including assistance with application forms, interview preparation, and understanding legal rights and responsibilities.

– Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation and fosters a sense of community among students.

– Monitor and assess student progress through regular evaluations and adjust teaching strategies as needed to ensure learning objectives are met.

– Collaborate with Voces de la Frontera staff to coordinate class schedules, recruit students, and promote program activities within the community.

– Maintain accurate records of attendance, student assessments, and program outcomes for reporting and evaluation purposes.

– Stay informed about changes in immigration policies and procedures to ensure the information provided to students is current and accurate.

Preferred Qualifications:

– Teaching certification or ESL certification is a plus.

– Experience working with community-based organizations or non-profits.

– Familiarity with Milwaukee’s immigrant community and local resources.
