There is a window of opportunity to win legalization by 2010 if we organize forcefully over the next 3 months to ensure that immigration reform becomes a national priority to the Administration.
An excellent opportunity will be November 18.
On Wednesday, November 18, the national campaign, Reform Immigration for America, will sponsor a national conversation with the Democratic Congressman from Illinois, Luis Gutierrez, regarding immigration reform. Thousands of people across the nation will be able to participate through a telephone call. The English call will take place at 7:00 p.m. CST and it will be followed by a Spanish call at 8:00 p.m. CST.
It is anticipated that legislation by Congressman Luis Gutierrez and Senator Schummer will be introduced in December.
The goal of the November 18th call is to invite a group of people to your home or other locations, to get more informed, and build the list of people nationwide committed to take action to realize our hopes.
To participate, people should register in the www.reformImmigrationforAmerica.org or call Voces de la Frontera at 414-643-1620 for assistance. Voces de la Frontera, in Milwaukee is sponsoring a Spanish phone call at our office at 1027 So. 5th St. on November 18th at 7:30 p.m. CST. We encourage people across the state to organize similar events.
We also invite members of Voces de la Frontera and the community to attend our annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, December 5th, so we can discusspriorities that we would like see in a legalization bill – what is essential – to have our support.
The results will be shared nationwide with other groups, which are organizing a similar process, in order to build a consensus around our shared priorities, maintain unity among the different organizations, and achieve a law that will improve living conditions for workers and their families.
To close the year, the New Sanctuary Committee of Voces de la Frontera is organizing a “posada” in December with an immigration theme where cards will be collected with our message to the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and Congress’ leadership, Rep. Pelosi and Sen. Reid, that along with the president are key to reaching our goals.
The window of opportunity is opening, if we unite, join us!
