National Convening to Organize the May 1st General Strike

On April 1st and 2nd, community members from across the country will gather in US House Speaker Paul Ryan’s district in southeastern Wisconsin to plan for the May 1st General Strike against Trump’s executive orders on immigration.

In moments of crisis, immigrant communities have used the general strike nationally in 2006 and in Wisconsin in 2016 to defeat anti-immigrant legislation. In February 2017, Voces de la Frontera and independent immigrant community  members organized work stoppages and business closures nationwide.

This convening will bring together organizations to follow the lead of the community members and deepen this strategy of  bold action based on our collective economic power as workers, small business owners, and consumers.
