Freedom School – Summer 2013

In the tradition of popular education and the Freedom Schools of the Civil Rights Movement,Youth Empowered in the Struggle (YES) will be offering an organizing school for 6 Wednesdays this summer to train aspiring youth leaders in the ideas and skills of social justice. Topics covered will include power and direct action; racism, classism, and sexism; public education; and an organizing skill share.

All Milwaukee and Racine high school students as well as college students from YES college chapters are encouraged to apply. Those who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate and attend a closing retreat.

Applications are due by June 6thand can be turned in to Kate, Kika, or Alexia at a YES meeting. Milwaukee meetings are on Thursdays at 5:30 PM at Voces de la Frontera, 1027 S. 5th St.

Racine meetings are on Tuesdays at 5:00 PM at the Labor Center, 2100 Layard Ave.
